Nature-Based Occupational Therapy
A gentler way to grow
Your child might be one of those kids who comes alive outdoors. Who softens in the breeze, who relaxes and plays more freely under the open sky.
If the clinic feels like a struggle, or you’re simply drawn to something different, we can meet where your child feels most themselves. Outside.
How it works
Out here, a stick becomes a paintbrush or musical instrument. We don’t need expensive plastic toys to build fine motor skills. A fallen log becomes a balance beam that builds core strength and confidence. While your child builds a fort, they’re developing bilateral coordination, motor planning, and problem-solving. The rustle of leaves, the give of soft earth beneath their feet. Nature provides the sensory input many children seek.
Your child sets the pace. There’s no agenda to push through. Just space to wander, discover, and work on their goals in ways that feel like pure play.
My background
I’ve been an occupational therapist for over 30 years, with specialist training in nature-based and equine-assisted therapies. This way of working isn’t just a method for me, it’s home.
My approach
I meet your child exactly where they are: not where a plan says they should be, but where they actually are in this moment. I watch, I follow their lead, and I adjust as we go. When children feel regulated and connected, that’s when real growth happens.
Sessions are slow, calm, and completely shaped around your child.
Why nature?
Nature offers what structured environments often cannot. Endless sensory richness, calming rhythms, and natural motivation. Children often find a different version of themselves outdoors. They can test what their bodies can do. They take risks that feel manageable and are graded by a therapist for the just right challenge. They may regulate more easily.
And therapy? It feels natural and enjoyable. It becomes something they want to do.
Let’s connect
Nature-based therapy works best when it’s the right match for your child’s needs, preferences, and goals. During our initial conversation, we’ll explore whether this approach suits your family.
I’d love to walk alongside your child as they discover what happens when therapy feels like play, when growth feels like freedom, and when the outdoors becomes their greatest teacher.
Slow down. Play freely. Grow confidently.
